How to apply?
The East Helsinki Music Institute uses the Eepos student administration system. Registration to music kindergarten groups, choir, student admissions, music perception groups and other courses will be done at Eepos.
The application time:
- kindergarten groups and choir on December
- for the instrumental studies on 8th of March to 14th of April 2025
New pupils will apply in the address ihmo.eepos.fi by choosing ”Apply as new student” or ”Forms”, whereby the application forms that are open for all will appear. Follow the instructions in the forms.
Pupils already studying at the music institute have received the passwords in the beginning of their studies and they sign in for registration at Eepos by choosing ”I have login credentials”. The pupils of the East Helsinki Music Institute register in the springs and autumns using forms that are open for them (e.g. music perception subjects, continuation of the studies). If the passwords are lost, please, ask for returning them through the e-mail of the office ihmo(at)ihmo.fi.
Registration time for continuing the instrumental studies in the study year 2024-2025 is going on from the 1st to the 14th of March 2024.
The student admission
Please, acquaint yourself with different kinds of instruments – including others besides the most popular ones (piano, violin, guitar). We recommend the applicant to consider choosing a second instrument as an option.

Dates for the student admission of the East Helsinki Music Institute are on the beginning of May 2025, 5th-7th of May places the main building (address Untuvaisentie 10) and Iiris centre (address Marjaniementie 74, main entrance, 3rd floor).
In case of cancellation, we kindly ask you to inform the music institute’s office as early as possible:

All applicants will be informed about the result by Midsummer.
The musicality test will be carried out in a group. In the group situation, sense of pitch and rhythm will be tested with different tasks. In the group situation, also the instrumental aptitude and the motor skills and physical qualities of the child will be assessed in order to find the most suitable instrument for them.
No previous music studies are required. The ones with previous instrumental studies are kindly asked to bring along their instrument for a possible audition.
You can prepare the child for the test at home by singing favourite songs of the child and the following children’s songs:

Musicality and aptitude test (duration about 20 minutes): The test will chart the ear and the sense of rhythm with the help of tasks. In the aptitude part of the test, we will examine the motor functions and physic qualities, in order to find the most suitable instrument.
The ones without previous music studies: You can prepare for the test by singing at home your favourite songs and songs to be found through this link. We kindly ask you to pick one song of your own choice and one from the list of songs to be performed at the test:

The ones with previous music studies, who will play their instrument in the test: please, perform two pieces of your choice. For the musicality test, please prepare a song of your choice to be sung.
Applicants to solo singing: In the student admission you will perform two songs of different styles, of which at least one in Finnish (e.g. a folksong). It is recommended to sing from memory. If you would like to have accompaniment, please take the sheet music with you, the accompanist of the music institute is at your disposal.
